Maverick singer Charly Boy has called upon Nigerians not to take Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, seriously.

He said that Soyinka, who turns ninety in a few days, may be experiencing age-related brain degeneration.

He asserted that this might be the cause of his recent words and deeds.

The 73-year-old musician claimed that the main issue facing Nigerians is that Soyinka’s close friends and family aren’t able to stop agents of desperate politicians who are taking advantage of the Nobel laureate’s “medical situation” for their own gain.

On his Instagram page, Charly Boy wrote:

“Prof. Wole Soyinka is aged over 80yrs, even tending towards 90yrs. For his age, some level of brain deterioration is not unexpected. His rhetorics and actions in recent times is suggestive of deteriorating brain desease, and as such he shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

“What we shld be worried about as well-meaning Nigerians, is how his family and close friends can’t ward off agents of desperate politicians who are bent on exploiting his medical situation to their advantage, no matter how low it sinks the once respected Nobel laureate.”

In a different story, Prof Wole Soyinka has advised presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election not to contest in 2027.

According to the laureate Obi is “unfit” to lead Nigeria.

Recall that the former Anambra State governor polled third behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and then candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu was declare winner of the poll.

In an interview with Noble Eyisi, a digital creator, Soyinka said he hopes that the former Anambra governor does not vie for the presidency in the 2027 election.

Soyinka alleged that Obi has encouraged the online vitriol often lobbed by his supporters — who are called ‘Obidients’.

“I hope for the sake of the nation that he doesn’t express interest in the next election because for me as a leader, if there was any proof that he was unfit to lead that country, it’s in the conduct which he encouraged among his followers,” Soyinka said.

“I know for a fact that he was in control of those forces.”

The novelist added that dishonest political leaders are encouraging the “divisive actions of the group”.

He said “one of these days, they would turn on them and teach them a lesson”.
