    Tinubu celebrates public health icon Arowolo at 80

    President Bola Tinubu celebrated Mr. Ifejola Arowolo, a public health hero and administrator, on his 80th birthday on Friday.

    In a statement, his spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, said, “The president joins family, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating the life of a respected chemist whose career has spanned the public and private health sectors in Nigeria and the United States.”

    As the first Chairman of Ondo State’s National Drug Abuse Committee and the state’s former Director of Pharmaceutical Services, the president praised Arowolo’s contributions.

    Tinubu praised Arowolo for his unwavering battle against fake medications, teaching his children—including Mrs. Olu Verheijen, the President’s Special Adviser on Energy—the importance of hard work, integrity, and accountability in public service.

    Arowolo was recognised for pioneering efforts to integrate indigenous Nigerian medicine with Western practices, making healthcare more accessible and affordable for the average Nigerian.

    Tinubu described Arowolo as an advocate for education as a fundamental tool for poverty alleviation.

    He said the pharmacist’s unwavering commitment to civic duty and adherence to principled governance, rooted in his faith-based academic background, had earned him widespread admiration as a forthright and disciplined leader.

    The President wished the octogenarian continued health, happiness, and fulfilment as he marked the significant milestone.

  • Osinbajo celebrates Buhari at 80

    President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, received congratulations from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on his 80th birthday, praising his life of “unblemished, honest, and selfless service to the nation.”

    A statement that Osinbajo personally signed and captioned “Buhari has shown it’s possible to serve honestly, forthrightly & selflessly says Osinbajo” contained his birthday message.

    “Happy 80th birthday, Mr. President!”, The Vice President and his wife, Dolapo Osinbajo, wrote in the statement.

    “Your extraordinary life of unblemished service to the nation in the army, as a Governor, Minister, Military Head of State and two-term Civilian President demonstrates that it is possible to serve the nation and our people honestly, forthrightly and selflessly.

    “Dolly and I, and the family wish you many more happy years in peace and good health in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

  • Sen. Briamoh gives scholarships to orphanage children on 80th birthday

    Sen. Yisa Briamoh (PDP-Edo) has unveiled plan to award scholarships to some children at the orphanage home in Abuja as part of the activities to mark his 80th birthday.

    The lawmaker, representing Edo North Senatorial District, made this known on Monday in a statement by the Chairman, Planning Committee, Mr Isa Briamoh.
    Briamoh, who will turn 80 on Aug. 12, said the celebration would be followed with a visit to the Halal Children’s Orphanage Home, Lugbe in Abuja, where he would present his speech, gift items and donations, including scholarships, to students of the home.

    “As a great philanthropist, Sen Briamoh had committed considerable personal funds towards the development and commissioning of an ultra-modern primary school (day & boarding) for the handicapped and disabled children at Igbe Road, in Auchi, Edo State.

    “Over the years, his scholarship foundation has become a bridge through which many indigent persons within the community in Edo North Senatorial District and beyond, have also acquired education and attained great heights themselves.

    “On Aug. 12, 2012 when he turned 70, Sen Briamoh, along with a host of his invited guests, friends and family members, shared fellowships with over 60 residents of the Christ Family Orphanage Home, at Otoukwe, Agenegbode in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, just as he did in 2002 when he clocked 60.

    “As he turns 80, he has chosen to mark the occasion at Halal Children’s Orphanage Home, Lugbe, Abuja,” it said.
    According to the statement, in his very little way, he has equally contributed in the building of mosques, schools and public-spirited works that enhanced the society.

    Some of the dignitaries expected at the occasion include Deputy Governor of Edo, Philip Shaibu; High Chief Raymond Dokpesi; Sen. Victor Oyofo; Sen. Adolphus Wabara, among others.

    According to the statement, highlights of the ceremony at the orphanage home also includes the cutting of cake by the celebrant, Islamic recitation and games by children of the home.

  • Encomiums pour for Pele the football legend at 80

    Many football stars, retired and active took to the social media Friday to pour encomiums on the greatest legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, professionally called Pele.

    The Brazilian retired star who won three World cups clocked 80 today.

    Believed to be the greatest footballer that ever existed, stories of the living legend continues to be told.

    However, while torrents of praises poured, Pele celebrated the day in isolation at home.

    FIFA, the global football governing body wished the legend a happy birthday and celebrated him by speaking to countless of other football legends about the Icon.

    Cafu, a retired Brazil defender described the legend as one who revolutionalized football.

    He said the football legend united countries and families.

    Ex-Chelsea star, Didier Drogba described Pele as His Majesty and His Highness.

    Drogba said the first VHS he watched was of Pele playing during the world cup sending positive messages.

    He thanked the football legend for sharing passion.

    Ronaldo de Lima, who retired playing for Brazil said that “speaking about Pele is speaking about an entity, speaking about something far superior to everyone.”

    Former UEFA president, Michel Platini said “There’s Pele the man, and then Pele the player. And to play like Pele is to play like God.”

    Ferenc Puskas, another football legend considered to be one of the greatest of all times also said Pele is the greatest in history. He said he refuses to classify Pele as a player as he was way above that.

    Pele who was a friend to the global icon of peace, Nelson Mandela was praised by the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

    It wished the legend a happy 80th birthday.

    Pele is believed to hold record of highest number of goals ever scored.

    His total of 1279 goals in 1363 games, which included friendlies, is a Guinness World Record.

    Pelé began playing for Santos at age 15 and the Brazil national team at 16.

    Football buffs live to see a player who would match and surpass Pele’s goal record.

    Buhari congratulates Jibril Aminu on 80th birthday

    President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the academia, other statesmen and political leaders in celebrating Prof. Jibril Aminu, who turns 80 on Aug. 25, 2019.

    President Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Saturday, lauded Aminu’s pedigree of excellence, stewardship and dedication to the growth of the nation and humanity.

    The President felicitated with the medical doctor, consultant and scholar for scoring many firsts in his chosen career, and promoting a culture of multi-disciplinary impact through commitment and focus.

    He also commended him for serving the nation variously as a minister, diplomat, administrator and senator.

    President Buhari affirmed that ”Aminu’s exceptionality stems from his forthrightness, strong sense of fairness, love for learning and unwavering support for issues that affect the livelihood of the ordinary people.”

    While highlighting the Professor’s many counsels to leaders and interventions as a lawmaker from 2003 to 2011, the president applauded his versatility and contributions to national development.

    He acknowledged that Aminu had served the country as a Minister of Education and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, believing that the scholar played a significant role in representing and projecting Nigeria at the global stage, which generations would remember.

    President Buhari rejoiced with family members, friends, academic and political associates of the physician, praying that the almighty God would grant him longer life and good health.
