Nobody respects Eedris Abdulkareem because he talks too much – Timaya

Nigerian singer Inetimi Alfred Odom, better known by his stage name Timaya has labelled Eedris Abdulkareem as “a talkative who no one is afraid of” in the music industry.

In a recent interview on Naija FM, the dancehall artist expressed his thoughts on Abdulkareem.

By drawing comparisons between Timaya and Abdulkareem, the host implied that people in the industry frequently dread both artists.

This idea was quickly refuted by Timaya, who claimed that he “does not talk or behave like Abdulkareem.”

The singer also made it clear that he values himself and wants others to value him as well.

“I no dey talk or behave like Eedris. Nobody Dey fear Eedris because he is talking too much. Right from time,” Timaya said.

“I don’t even want people to be afraid of me. I respect myself so that people can respect me too. Eedris and I never had any problem. The relationship we had was because I worked with him. I learned what I needed and moved.

“I don’t even think he knew my name at that time. I only just give him shoutouts because he was part of my story. We don’t have any reason to communicate.”

‘Make conscious music’ – Eedris Abdulkareem advises Nigerian singers

Veteran Nigerian singer, Eedris Abdulkareem, recently shared his thoughts on the present wave of Nigerian musicians.

He feels that the younger artists are only taking advantage of the hard work of their predecessors for their own financial advantage.

Eedris Abdulkareem stressed in a recent interview with SRTV that singers should value substance above superficiality and use their platforms to highlight important societal issues rather than only promoting lighthearted entertainment.

His worries are a result of his observation that today’s musicians are largely concerned with benefiting from the hard work and legacy of established performers such as himself, rather than making a positive impact.

According to Eedris Abdulkareem, this egocentric strategy ignores the accountability that accompanies their influence.

The “Jaga Jaga” crooner emphasised that the younger generation of singers is blind in their pursuit of self-interest since they don’t think about how their decisions will affect their extended family.

He emphasised to them that although they might be able to flee the nation during emergencies, their loved ones might not be as fortunate.

    In his words:

“The younger generation of [Nigerian] musicians are not ready.

“They are just there to capitalise on what we worked for and make money for themselves. They are very selfish people.

“They feel they and their family have Visas to flee the country if crisis arises but they should remember that their extended family members don’t have Visas.

“They will all die here. So, don’t be selfish. Use your music to talk about ills in the society as much as you are using your music to promote frivolities.”

  • Why Wole Soyinka isn’t criticising Tinubu – Eedris Abdulkareem

Why Wole Soyinka isn’t criticising Tinubu – Eedris Abdulkareem

Controversial singer Eedris Abdulkareem has alleged that Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka is refraining from criticizing President Bola Tinubu despite the country’s hardships due to his personal relationship with the president.

He lamented that Soyinka, known for his fierce criticisms of previous administrations, has been unfairly quiet during the current government.

“He [Wole Soyinka] has been very quiet lately. I know he has a good relationship with Tinubu so we know why,” Abdulkareem told SRTV.

Last year, when Prof. Wole Soyinka was questioned about his silence regarding the ongoing hardship in the country, he responded by stating that it was “too early” to evaluate President Tinubu’s administration, promising to assess it after a year in office.

Reports state that almost a month has passed since President Tinubu’s administration marked its one year in office, yet the Nobel laureate has not provided the assessment of the administration as promised.

How Eedris Abdulkareem took bullet for Nigerian artistes – Obi Asika

Veteran music executive and talent manager Obi Asika claims that controversial singer Eedris Abdulkareem took a bullet for other Nigerian musicians by protesting the inadequate treatment of local performers during American rapper 50 Cent’s 2004 concert in Nigeria.

In a recent episode of Hip TV’s Trending, the recently appointed Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture made a statement.

Asika said, “The basic situation was this, Nigerian brands did not respect Nigerian artistes. They made Nigerian talents feel like they have to beg to get on stage. They diminished them. Now, they are complaining that Nigerian artists are costing too much. It is because the brands didn’t respect the first set.

“Eedris was one of the first set. He was one of the biggest artists in the country. He told the organisers of the show that he wanted the same rights as 50 Cent. They did a show in Lagos, they were supposed to go to Benin or Port Harcourt, so they got into the plane… 50 Cent wasn’t even there at that time.

Eedris went to sit in the business class properly to discuss collaboration with 50 Cent but he was bounced out and an altercation ensued.

“What he did, he took a bullet for other artists coming behind him. Because they ended his career. After that whole thing happened, you didn’t see him [popping] again. They painted him like he is a trouble maker but he is not a trouble maker.”

Obi Asika is the CEO and founder of Storm 360. Many Nigerian entertainers, such as Naeto C, Ikechukwu, Sasha P, General Pype, L.O.S., Ms. Jaie, Tosin Martins, and Yung 6ix, have credited Storm 360 with influencing their careers.

He has been a co-convener of the Africa Soft Power Project since June 2020, which has allowed him to have an impact on the nexus of art, technology, and entrepreneurship for three years. His pioneering position at the Iba Ajie Asika Resource Centre speaks to his commitment to community-driven innovation in Onitsha, which began in January 2016.

Eedris Abdulkareem once attacked me physically – Singer Jaywon reveals

The Nigerian musician Jaywon recounted of how he was once attacked physically by his colleague Eedris Abdulkareem and his “boys.”

During their time at Kennis Music, Jaywon and Abdulkareem had “a couple of issues,” according to an interview he recently had with comic Teju Babyface.

He called Abdulkareem a “bully,” emphasising that he had no business criticising Burna Boy.

He said, “A lot of people might know Eedris, but I know Eedris. I was on the same label with him. We were at Kennis Music together and we had a couple of issues.

“Eedris cannot call Burna Boy out. Different people can call Burna Boy out not Eedris. Because whatever [arrogance] Burna Boy is doing now, people like Eedris started it. Eedris is a bully. Ask anybody who knows him. He can be nice sometimes. I also heard that he is generous. But he cannot call Burna Boy out.

“Eedris once attacked me with his boys. He attacked me on a bus after a show because he felt I stole his shine at the concert. They were kicking me. It was even in the news that I was in a coma. I tried to stand and they were kicking me down.

“When I finally got up, I confronted the driver. I was like, ‘How will something like this be going and you are still driving?’ Eedris threatened to kill the driver if he stopped driving.”

Jaywon, however, berated Burna Boy over his claims that no Nigerian artist paved the way for him.

“It is madness for Burna Boy to say no one paved the way for him. It’s a wrong thing to say, the next generation will do the same to him,” he said.

  • Eedris Abdulkareem’s fight commendable, execution misguided- Kcee

Eedris Abdulkareem’s fight commendable, execution misguided- Kcee

Renowned Nigerian Singer Kcee, also known as Kingsley Okonkwo, has voiced support for his senior counterpart, Eedris Abdulkareem, amidst their online controversy with ex-bandmates.

During an episode of the Honest Bunch Podcast, Eedris shared the details of the notorious 2004 airplane incident involving American rapper 50 Cent, who was the main act for the Nigerian Breweries music tour.

Eedris recounted sitting in the business class of the plane, disputed by 50 Cent’s crew who insisted it was reserved for the rapper. Eedris asserted his right to stay, citing an agreement with Nigerian Breweries for comparable treatment to 50 Cent.

The situation abruptly escalated into a physical altercation, allegedly captured by veteran cinematographer DJ Tee. This caught the eye of President Obasanjo, who then directed the Inspector General of Police to intervene.

According to Eedris, the incident served as a catalyst for Nigerian artists to gain respect both domestically and internationally.

In an interview with Naija 102fm, Kcee addressed the issue, highlighting that many discussing it weren’t present. As an eyewitness, he clarified that 50 Cent was not on the scene but in his car during the incident.

He emphasized that Eedris, despite any flaws, isn’t a bad person. Kcee acknowledged Eedris’s fight for the industry’s well-being but suggested it might have been pursued in an inappropriate manner.

“I dey inside that fight, I sidon near Eedris, in fact, I was at the back, it was Eedris who told me to come to the front. E-Money was the only cameraman there that videoed everything. E-Money was my manager and he was always holding a camcorder videoing everything. The slap dey take give E-Money take collect that content ehn. He was the only one that had the content that day.

“Before that are talking about the issue today, are just saying it based on hearsay and they were not there. I don’t talk about the matter, because it pains me. That’s how the industry has been for so many years. Eedris didn’t even see 50 Cent that day, he was inside a car, and no one even saw him.

“It was his team that saw Eedris seated where he was supposed to see. And to be honest, Eedris isn’t that bad though e get his own for body. But d fight wey Eedris dey fight na good fight but maybe wrongly”.

  • ‘How I would love to be remembered’– Eedris Abdulkareem

‘How I would love to be remembered’– Eedris Abdulkareem

Veteran singer Eedris Abdulkareem has shared his desire for the younger generation of musicians and Nigerians in general to remember him.

In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, the singer “Jaga Jaga” made an appearance. Toun Cole, the co-host, posed the question, “How would you love this new generation of artists to remember you?”

Abdulkareem simply replied: “For the truth that I stand for.”

Asked whether he would love to work with any new generation artist, the veteran singer said: “I plan to collaborate with any new generation Nigerian artist that is conscious enough. Yes, Falz.

Falz is the only conscious artist in this new generation. Who else? If your music is not adding value, no matter how far it goes, I don’t give a damn, because the lifespan is three or four months. You will have to do another song to replace that one. But when the song is evergreen, it will always be evergreen.”

  • How I founded ‘The Remedies,’ invited Eedris Abdulkareem – Eddy Remedy

How I founded ‘The Remedies,’ invited Eedris Abdulkareem – Eddy Remedy

Veteran singer and former member of The Remedies, Eddy Remedy has said contrary to his ex-bandmate, Eedris Abdulkareem’s claims, he was the sole founder of the now-defunct band.

Remember that in a previous podcast interview, Abdulkareem asserted that he and Eddy were The Remedies’ founding members and that Tony Tetuila was only added to the group out of sympathy after they met at a performance in Ilorin, Kwara State.

But according to Eddy Remedy, who recently spoke with Daddy Freeze, Tetuila met Abdulkareem at his Lagos flat rather than in Ilorin, where Tetuila joined the gang.

He claimed to have persuaded Abdulkareem to join the group, and when Tetuila accompanied him, he subsequently found out that Abdulkareem had taken money from his parents under the pretence of turning their son into a celebrity.

The legendary singer claimed that back then, there were rumours spreading due to Abdulkareem’s greed, despite the fact that he was the group’s only sponsor and Tetuila’s parents were not.

Remedy said, “That boy (Eedris Abdulkareem) is a greedy boy. He has always been greedy. I formed the group and invited him into the group. The day he was coming, he brought Tony [Tetuila]. I had never met Tony in my life. I just saw a guy limping behind him.

“When they got into my room, I asked him, ‘Who is this man?’ He now introduced Tony that he has been with him all these while. That was when Eedris was supposed to tell me that Tony’s parents have given him some money and he told them that he will take him to wherever he is going. He didn’t tell me that. The rumours first started when we were on tour that Tony’s parents were sponsoring the group. No, they were not sponsoring the group. I had $5,000 that my parents sent to me from America in 1997. They sent me that money to come and meet them but I insisted that I was to stay back in Nigeria to pursue my music career after graduating from Yaba Tech. I used that money to sponsored the group throughout that period.”

Veteran singer and former member of The Remedies, Tony Tetuila, has denied his ex-bandmate, Eedris Abdulkareem’s asserts that they embraced him to join the now-defunct band out of pity.

Remember that Abdulkareem recently asserted in a podcast interview that Tetuila joined The Remedies after they met him at a gig in Ilorin, Kwara State, and that he and Eldee were the founding members of the band.

Tetuila was “desperate to sing,” he said, and they let him in so they could “sing more songs.”

Veteran singer and former member of The Remedies, Tony Tetuila, has refuted his ex-bandmate, Eedris Abdulkareem’s claims that they accepted him to join the now-defunct band out of pity.

Recall that Abdulkareem had in a recent podcast interview claimed that he and Eldee were the original members of The Remedies, saying that Tetuila later joined the group after they met him at a show in Ilorin, Kwara State.

He claimed Tetuila was “desperate to sing” and they let him in because they wanted to “sing more songs.”

Tetuila shared a clip of himself watching Abdulkareem’s podcast interview via his Tiktok page and voiced out how disappointed he is with his former bandmate.

At a recent event he attended, he claimed the comic apologised to the crowd and even criticised him for backing Tinubu.
