Apple Introduces ChatGPT Integration into Siri, Native Apps

Apple has unveiled significant updates to its artificial intelligence offerings, incorporating OpenAI’s ChatGPT into native applications such as Siri on iPhones and iPads.

In a notable departure for the privacy-conscious company, Apple has teamed up with OpenAI to enhance its Writing Tools and Siri virtual assistant, enabling users to access ChatGPT directly within the Apple ecosystem.

This move, originally announced in June, represents Apple’s most ambitious venture into generative AI to date, positioning it to compete with tech giants Google and Samsung, who have already integrated similar features into their Android devices.

Since ChatGPT’s debut in 2022, Apple has faced scepticism over its AI strategy, especially as rivals Microsoft and Google released their AI products at a rapid pace.

The ChatGPT integration is part of Apple’s “Apple Intelligence” suite, which also includes an AI-driven image editing tool named Image Playground and an emoji generator called Genmoji.

Initially, the features will be available in six English-speaking countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, and Britain. Support for an additional 11 languages is expected later in the year, beginning with an update in April.
