Millions of users worldwide were affected on Friday after Meta’s Facebook and Instagram platforms experienced a major service disruption.

The outage left many users unable to access their accounts, with reports indicating that Facebook automatically signed people out and prevented them from logging back in. Messenger was also impacted by the incident.

Users attempting to reconnect were met with error messages, while Facebook displayed a notice acknowledging the problem and stating that a fix was being worked on.

The issue quickly became a trending topic on X, where affected users shared complaints and sought confirmation that the disruption was widespread.
While WhatsApp appeared largely unaffected, some users reported difficulties accessing Instagram through its website.

Reports from multiple countries suggested the outage was global in scale. Monitoring platform Downdetector recorded a sharp increase in complaints related to Facebook and Instagram services during the disruption.
Meta had not provided an official explanation for the outage at the time of filing this report.
