Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South, announced on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu’s administration plans to utilise artificial intelligence (AI) to address Nigeria’s security challenges in 2025.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Ibrahim highlighted that ₦4.91 trillion has been allocated to defence and security in Tinubu’s 2025 budget proposal, making security a top priority for the government.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the senator described the upcoming year as a challenging one for criminals. The administration aims to develop applications to track and combat bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists, leveraging technology to enhance security efforts.
“AI will be deployed to assist security personnel in making life uncomfortable for criminals,” he remarked.
₦49.7tn ‘Restoration Budget’ Prioritises Security
President Tinubu recently presented the ₦49.7 trillion 2025 Budget Proposal to the National Assembly, with major allocations to security and defence (₦4.91tn), infrastructure (₦4.06tn), health (₦2.4tn), and education (₦3.5tn).
Ibrahim expressed optimism that the ₦5 trillion security allocation could boost oil production by creating a more secure environment, ultimately increasing revenue for the nation.
Improved Security Index
While Nigeria continues to face various security threats, Senator Ibrahim praised the government’s progress, claiming that no city or local government is currently under Boko Haram’s control.
“The security index has improved under President Tinubu. Whether you like him or not, the military and police have performed excellently. No town or state is flying the Boko Haram flag today,” Ibrahim added.
