[TOURIST GUIDE] How to travel safely this festive period

Some people travel during the Christmas holidays to spend time with family, while others take a vacation to unwind from the year’s stress. However, the decision to travel during this time should be accompanied by a plan, or the entire process will turn out to be a nightmare, causing you more stress in that short period than the entire year.

Here are some suggestions to make your trip go more smoothly.

Do not travel during peak hours.
Peak days occur around the holiday. Avoid travelling on these dates because you will spend twice as much, which is bad news for your wallet because you may end up sacrificing important things due to the extra travel cost.

Leave Early

Don’t take things for granted and expect the road to be clear. Leave early for the airport or bus station because there may be heavy traffic and queues that will cause you to be late.

Pack carefully

It is true you want to show off that you are doing well and are in sync with fashion but pack only a few things that you need. Because you might likely get a gift where you are going and carrying extra luggage to and fro is not a good idea.

Take advantage of deals

Once a travel agent is offering a deal, take advantage of it but research to have information of the terms and conditions before jumping on it.

Be Calm

Travelling is stressful, it sometimes frays the nerves. Some airline and bus station workers are very unhelpful and annoying and wield so much power during travel periods. Ensure you keep calm and ignore them if they want to aggravate you.

Select a secure vehicle.

Select official taxis or public transportation like trains and buses. Only travel in vehicles equipped with seatbelts.
Avoid overcrowded, overloaded buses and minivans. Avoid riding motorcycles or motorbikes, particularly motorcycle taxis (known in Nigeria as Okada). (Many accidents are caused by inexperienced motorcycle riders.) Choose newer vehicles because they may have more safety features, such as airbags, and are more dependable. Choose larger vehicles, which may offer better crash protection.
