Residents of Abaji Area Council have appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to urgently facilitate completion of the abandoned Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) water project in the area.

The residents, who spoke with newsmen in Abaji on Friday, said that the project if completed would address water challenges facing residents in the area.

A resident, Mr Sunday Musa, said the MDGs water project was almost 90 per cent complete and only required water pipes to supply water to the neighbouring villages when it was abandoned.

“We are appealing to the FCT Administration to do the needful so that the abandoned water project at Chief Daniel Yakwo’s hill top opposite the market can be completed.

“The project requires only minor installations and laying of water pipes to the various communities for adequate supply of water.

“If the project is completed, it will provide adequate water to so many communities and neighbouring villages in Abaji,’’ Musa said.

Also, Mr Felix Kaura, a resident of Agyana community in Abaji, described the water challenge facing by people in the area as pitiable and called on the appropriate authorities to intervene.

Kaura said the only source of water in the area was a stream flowing in the community, which was not hygienic for consumption.

According to him, the only way to touch the lives of people in any community is by providing social infrastructure and development.

“We go to the river to fetch water. We are appealing to the government to complete the water project in Abaji so that we can have potable water.’’

Similarly, Mrs Asebe Bature, a resident of Atako community in Abaji, said that the residents of the area had been neglected.

Bature said that the communities in the area council had not benefitted much from the government as they still sourced water from questionable sources and vendors.

She called on the government to fulfill its campaign promises by providing adequate infrastructure to the people in the area.

Meanwhile, Mr Haruna Wodi, another resident, appealed to the FCTA to ensure the take-off of Abuja University of Technology, Abaji (AUTA), to enhance employment opportunities for indigenes and development of the area.
