BREAKING: Immediate past Senate President, Bukola Saraki arrested

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has held the immediate past president of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, in custody over allegations of theft and money laundering.

According to a report by Premium Times, the former two-term Kwara State governor was arrested and detained on Saturday (today) by the EFCC.

As senate president between 2015 and 2019, Saraki spent a considerable time facing allegations of corruption and false declaration of assets. He was acquitted by the Supreme Court in June 2018.

Newsclickng.com reports that Saraki’s successor as Kwara governor, Abdulfatai Ahmed was earlier arrested by the anti-graft agency.

Meanwhile, neither the EFCC nor Saraki’s media office have confirmed or debunked the arrest as at the time of filing this report.
