An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has advised three men standing trial for the alleged murder of Federal Road Safety Corps officer Lasisi Oluwamayokun and her daughter, Adesewa, to secure legal representation before their trial proceeds.
The defendants, Gboyega Daramola, 39, Sunday James, 38, and Fajemirokun Victor, 36, appeared in court on Monday for arraignment.
However, the state prosecutor, Muyiwa Ogunleye, told the court that he had yet to serve the defendants with the information papers required for the proceedings.
Ogunleye explained that he received notification of the court session late last Wednesday, leaving him with insufficient time to serve the documents.
He asked the court for a short adjournment to enable the prosecution to complete the necessary procedures for a proper arraignment.
Speaking with journalists after the session, the prosecutor disclosed that the state had lined up eight witnesses, including four police officers, for the trial.
He expressed confidence that proceedings could begin and reach a conclusion at the next sitting, subject to the court’s schedule.
Justice Yinka Aderibigbe adjourned the case until December 8 for hearing. The defendants were subsequently returned to the Ilesa Correctional Facility.
How the case unfolded
The case arose from the disappearance of 38-year-old Oluwamayokun and her daughter, who went missing on November 2, 2025, after leaving their home at Obasanjo Hilltop Estate in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The two were later confirmed dead.
According to the account presented in the report, Fajemirokun, a male acquaintance of Oluwamayokun, allegedly lured the victims before they were killed.
Fajemirokun was subsequently arrested. During a police parade at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, he reportedly confessed to luring the victims to their deaths at the hands of suspected ritualists, allegedly working with Daramola and James, described as herbalists.
The three men are standing trial over the alleged killings. The prosecution is expected to present its witnesses as the case progresses.
