Daniel Etim-Effiong’s wife, Toyosi, expressed her feelings over her husband’s passionate kiss with actress Bolaji Ogunmola in a movie promotional video.
In January, social media users had conflicting reactions to the video. Although some users commended Effiong and Ogunmola’s on-screen chemistry, others attacked the actor for reportedly “disrespecting his wife.”
Ogunmola addressed the criticism by stating that the promotional material was a requirement of her acting contract.
“Effiong was acting in his role as Adimchi, not as a husband,” she said, adding that the video was shot in front of numerous people, including cameramen.
In a recent podcast, Effiong asked his wife how she handled the controversy surrounding the kiss.
Toyosi revealed that she didn’t see the promotional video immediately and only found out about the controversy when she saw headlines checking on her mental health.
The YouTuber emphasized that she trusts her husband and doesn’t feel the need to monitor his on-screen interactions with other actresses.
“You know the interesting is. It is hard to believe. I did not even know there was noise. Because I did not go to those places. It is Apostle Joshua Selman, my American people, my business group people, those are the people that come on my timeline. I am not on these platforms,” she said.
“You know when I found out? Usually, because some of these things stay on Instagram or Twitter, they are not on news platforms, unlike actual sites. I get Google alerts for things on actual sites. It will not send me things on Instagram.
“Some people took those things and put them on their actual website. So, I saw check on Toyosi’s mental health’. I was like, where are we this time? I even ignored it that night. It was on the following day.”
She said Bolaji reached out to her after the controversy, asking if she was angry about the kiss.
Toyosi said she assured the actress that she saw the kiss as a mere acting performance, not a personal betrayal.
“It was Bolaji who reached out and sent me the video because we have been talking about ‘Summer Rain’ from last year when she was thinking about doing it. So, I was asking how is the PR going, how can we support,” she asked.
“She was just like ‘Are you not angry with me?’ I said why? She said ‘are you serious? I have not been able to reach out. I thought you were angry with me’. I then asked her to send me the video.
“It was like I was watching a movie. It was not me watching my husband. That is what many people do not get.
“When you are on screen, I am not seeing Daniel. There is this assumption that people have that I am obsessed. I am sitting down and watching your movies. That I have to mark each girl.
“Outside is outside. You are my husband. You are my God-ordained husband. Any kiss you want to kiss.”
