The Nigerian government has received $52.88 million in recovered Galactica assets linked to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke from the United States.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, announced this during the formal signing ceremony of the asset agreement between Nigeria and the United States in Abuja on Friday.

Fagbemi revealed that $50 million of the recovered funds would be allocated through the World Bank for rural electrification projects, while the remaining $2 million would support the International Institute of Justice to enhance the justice system and combat corruption.

He further highlighted that the asset recovery signifies a milestone in the partnership between Nigeria and the United States in fighting corruption and promoting the rule of law.

Fagbemi added that this development reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling corruption in the country.

In his remarks, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, emphasized the importance of monitoring and ensuring that the recovered assets are used to benefit Nigerians.
