The announcement of 2Baba and wife Annie Idibia’s divorce has caused a stir in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
The “African Queen” hitmaker revealed on Sunday that he and Annie were divorcing after a prolonged separation.
The 49-year-old revealed that his Instagram account had been hacked and that attempts were underway to take back control of the page just minutes after the post.
However, 2Baba denied earlier allegations that his Instagram account was compromised in a recent video. In addition, he revealed that he and Annie were no longer together, which left many people wondering why he had first denied the news.
Only 12 posts remain on 2Baba’s Instagram feed after he shockingly removed the post announcing his breakup with Annie on Monday.
The news of 2Baba and Annie’s split has sparked mixed reactions from fans and celebrities alike. While some have expressed shock and disappointment, others have weighed in on the manner in which the news was shared.
Maraji, a popular skit maker, expressed disappointment with 2Baba’s approach, describing it as “distasteful”.
In a post on her Instastory, the content creator said she felt he didn’t need to bring the matter to social media, knowing that Annie had been subjected to online bashing.
“Na only dem know wetin dem see come decide say dem no do again and that is fair and fine but posting about it knowing how this woman has been tagged ‘most understanding wife’ and then making a video in a berating manner,” she wrote.
“Tuface didn’t have to post about the ending of a marriage that wasn’t even the bane of his online presence. Knowing how she is currently being dragged, he could have just kept it off social media and let the woman heal in peace.
“I am happy she is free now sha, I hope she finds herself and heals quickly. Also why is he announcing it like he won a trophy (so distasteful).”
Uche Elendu, an actress, wondered why the singer made the announcement public, calling it a “betrayal” and “insensitive”. She said she felt that Annie had been wronged, having “left her life for the man she loved”.
“No Love, No Accountability, No Loyalty, No Culture, No Bond, No Memory, No decorum, No respect, No Empathy. I am so disappointed at this betrayal and insensitive public announcement from Tuface,” she wrote.
“At a time like this, love does not count errors. The public do not need this information, you are too big for public validation. A woman that locked in on your mess in the public space, IDGAF what goes on behind us, but what we see, we believe.
“Men will stain your white!!! Most of them forget so fast. Annie left her life for the man she loved, but love has failed her. It is well.”
Toke Makinwa, a media personality, questioned 2Baba’s decision to announce the divorce publicly, emphasizing that the truth will be revealed soon.
Mary Njoku, an actress, cautioned 2Baba to ensure Annie’s well-being, stating that despite their silence out of respect, questions will arise if she’s not properly cared for.

In an Instagram video, she questioned why Annie would have “started taking drugs after getting married and having two children”.

In a Instagram post, Doris Ogala made bold claims, suggesting that 2Baba is the real victim in their troubled marriage, while Annieis not entirely innocent.
She said:
“This thing is a projection on their marriage. It’s long overdue. Though Annie is not innocent, trust me whatever she did was because she doesn’t want to lose 2Baba. This thing na juju tuzzle… but the other one upgraded because she has a witch on her side, THE VICTIM HERE IS 2BABA.”
