Actress Regina Daniels’ husband, Ned Nwoko, has stood by his wife after she received criticism for her remarks during the #EndBadGovernance protest.

Some Nigerians took to the streets during the statewide demonstration, which got underway on August 1, to voice their disapproval of the nation’s bad governance and skyrocketing cost of living.

In response, President Bola Tinubu asked demonstrators to cease violent acts in favour of communication in a broadcast on August 4.

After criticising acts of violence committed by some protestors, the 23-year-old actress found herself at the centre of controversy.

Social media users criticised her harshly for her comments, calling her out of touch with the hardships of regular Nigerians and coming from a “privileged position.”

Daniels responded to her detractors by stating that she is aware of her luxury but that it does not make her any less concerned about the economic problems facing Nigeria.

She claimed that even in her privileged position, she is impacted by the problems facing the country, and that the burden of growing expenses also falls on people close to her and her domestic staff.

Supporting his spouse, Nwoko, a senator from Delta North, praised Daniels on Instagram for her strength and discernment in standing behind Nigerians during a trying time.

The businessman added that as a senator, his legislative efforts have always focused on the welfare of the people.

“I commend Gina’s wisdom and strength of character in deciding on her own to sympathise and support Nigerians showing bottled-up frustrations with the apparent hopelessness in the country,” he wrote.

“Please let everyone be peaceful with the protests, as there cannot be any justifications for more loss of lives.

“As a senator, my bills and motions have been about the people. This is really my passion”.
