Kane absent with injury as Bayern defeat Wolfsburg

Harry Kane was sidelined for Bayern Munich’s last Bundesliga home fixture of the season due to injury, as they secured a comfortable 2-0 victory against Wolfsburg.

The England captain was absent from the match at the Allianz Arena, with manager Thomas Tuchel stating that the 30-year-old striker was dealing with “back problems.”

Lovro Zvonarek, making his first start for Bayern, broke the deadlock just four minutes into the game with a well-placed shot into the corner of the net.

Shortly afterward, Leon Goretzka doubled Bayern’s lead with a curled finish from close range, assisted by Thomas Muller.

In his 500th Bundesliga appearance, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer received a standing ovation when he was substituted in the 74th minute.

Bayern, currently in second place, are two points ahead of Stuttgart in third. With their superior goal difference, securing just one point in their final match will likely see them finish as runners-up to champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Kane’s absence has dashed his hopes of surpassing former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski’s single-season Bundesliga goals record. Lewandowski scored 41 goals during the 2020–21 season, while Kane, with 36 goals in 32 games, would need to score six in Bayern’s last match against Hoffenheim to break that record.
