The Ogun State Government on Saturday refuted claims that Governor Dapo Abiodun referred to Nigerians as sore losers in relation to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.

Instead, they clarified that the governor’s remarks were about certain political figures who lost the 2023 elections and were allegedly exploiting the dissatisfaction of Nigerian youths to destabilize the country. The government emphasized that the chaos during the protests supported the governor’s viewpoint.

In the statement, delivered by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, it was stated that Governor Abiodun, in his interview with Channels Television, did not imply that ordinary Nigerians expressing their grievances were sore losers. The governor is known for his respect and admiration for Nigerian youths, students, and workers.

The statement highlighted that, just recently, the governor praised Ogun residents, especially the youth, for avoiding violent protests and behaving commendably. He reassured that his administration remains committed to their well-being.

Furthermore, the statement accused certain individuals of misrepresenting the governor’s remarks and launching targeted attacks against him and his office. It was clarified that when Governor Abiodun mentioned “sore losers,” he was referring to opposition leaders who do not support the current administration and urged them to focus on the 2027 elections instead of discrediting government policies.

The statement concluded by reiterating Governor Abiodun’s respect for the protesters and clarifying that his comments were not aimed at ordinary Nigerians.
