Musician and social media sensation Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington has been released on bail after five days in police custody.
On Tuesday night, Deji Adeyanju, his attorney, made this announcement on X.
Previously, Adeyanju stated that his client was taken into custody last Friday in Lagos and subsequently taken to Abuja.
He said that Burna Boy, the musician, had filed a legal complaint, which led to Speed Darlington’s detention. He was charged with stalking and defaming the Grammy Award winner online.
In his post on X, Adeyanju appreciated those who contributed to the singer’s release and commended the police for their professionalism. He wrote:
“Special appreciation to Egbon @YeleSowore, super reliable senior lawyer @stanalieke and to all Nigerians for raising their voice for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for the professionalism today.”
Speed Darlington, in a video made weeks ago, asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammys for his album Twice As Tall, taunting him over his affiliation with the embattled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Shortly after, Speed Darlington who was earlier declared missing before reports of his arrest, was spotted in a video that surfaced online.
The surfaced video showed the music star in handcuffs as he was being led away by some men.
