Sterling leads Chelsea to 4-1 victory at Burnley
Raheem Sterling made a strong case for his inclusion in England’s starting lineup by playing a key role in Chelsea’s 4-1 thrashing of Burnley on Saturday.
Sterling has once more been omitted from the England squad for the upcoming matches against Australia and Italy.
However, the winger demonstrated his skill by contributing to three of Chelsea’s goals at Turf Moor, helping Mauricio Pochettino’s team secure their third consecutive victory in all competitions.
Young French player Wilson Odobert marked his Premier League starting debut by surprising Burnley with a goal after 15 minutes.
In the 42nd minute, Chelsea leveled the score when Ameen Al-Dakhil inadvertently redirected Sterling’s cross into the net, resulting in an own goal.
Five minutes into the second half, the Blues took the lead after Sterling was fouled by Vitinho. Cole Palmer stepped up and successfully converted the penalty, marking his first goal since joining from Manchester City in August.
Sterling concluded his outstanding performance in the 65th minute with a precise finish from Conor Gallagher’s pass. Ten minutes later, Nicolas Jackson secured Chelsea’s fourth goal.
