[VIDEO] Nigerian doctor breaks Guinness World Record for largest drawing

Nigerian doctor and hyper-realism artist Fola David has set a new Guinness World Record, GWR, for the largest drawing by an individual.

The six-day endeavour was started on July 16 at Onikan Stadium by the Lagos-based visual artist, who wanted to sketch 1000 square metres of art that would highlight Nigeria’s many cultural traditions.

On Friday night, in a now-trending post on social media, he wrote:

“Congratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 pm, we broke the current record of 629.98 square metres, but we are not done! As the goal is to get over 1000 square metres of canvas covered in drawings; we are currently at 689 square metres. Let’s Go!”

Prominent Nigerians who have been to David include Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate; Hilda Baci, the former winner of the GWR; and Farooq Oreagba, the businessman who commanded attention at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, to name a few.

David is an alumnus of the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), and the administration paid him a visit to express their support.

Recall that, Nigerian hair designer Helen Williams was officially recognised by Guinness World Records (GWR) as the new owner of the record for the widest handmade wig.

The British reference book disclosed in a recent blog post that Helen created a hairpiece that reaches the floor and is 3.65 metres (11 feet 11 inches) in width.

This is equivalent to a Mini Cooper, which is 3.63 m (11 ft 10 in) long, according to GWR.

In February, the expert wig maker started her third attempt at breaking the record, and it took her a month to finish.

Using almost 800 bundles of auburn hair, Helen spent about N4 million ($2,719; £2,150) on the supplies to make the wig.

According to GWR, the 31-year-old created the most of her incredibly large wig by hand, but certain pieces were sewn using a sewing machine.
