The Jigawa State Government has announced Wednesday (today) as a public holiday to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation.

Jigawa was established on August 27, 1991, following its separation from the old Kano State.

It was among the states created during the exercise that year, alongside Yobe, Enugu, Bauchi, and Kogi, as part of efforts to enhance governance and promote development.

In a statement signed by the Jigawa State Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, and made available to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, the residents are encouraged to join festivities and activities planned across the state to celebrate the special day.

The government congratulated all Jigawa indigenes on the milestone and encouraged them to pray for both Jigawa and Nigeria as they celebrate this historic day.

According to the statement, the day off is meant for public servants and residents to reflect and give thanks to Almighty Allah for the state’s blessings and peaceful coexistence.

“The declaration aims to allow people to properly participate in the anniversary events and communal prayers without work distractions,” the statement added.

Dagaceri urged everyone to use the break to appreciate the progress Jigawa has made since its creation and to pray for a brighter future.

The government also highlighted the importance of unity and continued development as Jigawa moves forward into its 35th year.

“This move reflects the state’s commitment to honouring its unique history and promoting community spirit among its people,” it added.
