Prince Harry meets King Charles in London

Prince Harry arrived at King Charles III’s Clarence House residence in London on Wednesday for what is believed to be their first face-to-face meeting since February 2024, British media reported.

The Duke of Sussex, who has been in the UK since Monday for a series of engagements, entered the royal residence in a black car just over an hour after the king returned from Scotland. His arrival immediately fuelled speculation of a long-awaited reunion between father and son.

Harry, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California, last saw his father in February 2024 when he flew to Britain following the king’s cancer diagnosis. In May, the prince admitted they were not on speaking terms, citing ongoing legal battles in the UK and his public criticisms of the royal family. Still, he expressed hope for “reconciliation”, adding, “I do not know how much longer my father has.”

On Monday, Harry paid tribute to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, by visiting her grave. He also has several charity events scheduled during his stay. Despite making three previous visits to the UK since their last meeting, he had not been able to see Charles, even once when they were only two miles apart on separate engagements.

Speculation of renewed contact increased on 9 July when Charles’s press secretary and Harry’s communications chief were seen meeting in London, joined by the prince’s UK spokesman. A photo of their discussion, published in the Mail on Sunday, further suggested preparations for a reconciliation.
