The medical panel established by the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to evaluate the health condition of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has yet to complete its assessment.
Justice James Omotosho had, in a ruling on September 26, directed the NMA President to assemble a team of medical experts to examine Kanu and determine whether he is fit to continue his ongoing terrorism trial.
During the court session on Wednesday, the prosecution counsel, Suraj Sa’ada (SAN), informed the court that the medical panel was still carrying out its work and had not yet concluded its findings.
Sa’ada explained that the panel intends to conduct a comprehensive evaluation and requested that it be allowed additional time to complete its assignment.
He proposed an extension of one week to enable the panel to finalize its report.
The defence counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), did not oppose the request, prompting Justice Omotosho to adjourn the case until October 16 for further proceedings.
