Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election as an opportunity to demonstrate its impartiality and credibility amid widespread accusations of bias.

Atiku made the call on Sunday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he also expressed support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Nwosu Chuma, ahead of the November 8, 2025 poll.

“The election is also an opportunity for the electoral umpire, under the leadership of Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), to prove to the world that it has turned a new page and that the integrity of our elections will no longer be sacrificed for the satisfaction of the ruling party,” Atiku wrote.

The ADC is one of 16 political parties contesting Saturday’s election as the people of Anambra prepare to elect their governor for the next four years.

Atiku described the exercise as more than just a routine poll, calling it a “unique opportunity” to end what he termed as years of poor governance in the state.

“The Anambra State governorship election next weekend is one of the off-cycle elections according to the country’s electoral timetable. But rather than being like any other, this election offers a unique opportunity to end the era of poor governance and prevent the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from once again subverting the will of the people,” he said.

The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) further appealed to voters to rally behind Nwosu Chuma John and his running mate Nwobu Geoffrey Ndubisi, describing them as leaders capable of ushering Anambra into a new era of prosperity and economic growth.

He also called on all registered voters in the state to not only vote but also mobilise massive support for the ADC candidate, stressing that the election represents a defining moment for the people.

“Anambra is a place with a rich history of leadership and progress. I believe that once again, Ndi Anambra will open a new chapter of good governance and serve as an example for the rest of Nigeria,” Atiku added.
