Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stated that he is confident Ghana could eventually partner with Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire to co-host a FIFA World Cup.

Adams encouraged the government to consider steps toward making the proposal feasible, especially in light of FIFA’s recent trend of awarding hosting duties to multiple countries.

The 2026 tournament will take place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, while Morocco, Spain, and Portugal are scheduled to jointly host the 2030 World Cup.

Adams said, “They [FIFA] are beginning to adopt a number of nations doing it so maybe who knows, the next one would be Ghana, Nigeria, and then Côte d’Ivoire coming together to also host the World Cup and it will be good.”

He continued, “I believe that we, together with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, who have already invested quite a lot because they hosted AFCON not too long ago. We can also ask for that right.”

Ghana most recently organised a major sporting competition in 2024 when it held the postponed 2023 African Games, while Côte d’Ivoire hosted the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
