Not every love story starts with music, even when both people are meant to be singers. When Simi Ogunleye first met Adekunle Kosoko, she had no idea he could sing, he was just the sweet guy who did photoshop work and once sent her a Facebook message she never saw.

Simi wasn’t even looking for love then. She just wanted to pour her heart into her music, to chase her dreams without distraction. But life had other plans, and what started as friendship slowly morphed into something deeper. They’d hang out together, and in those moments, something special sparked between them. It was the little things that made Simi’s heart open up. The way Adekunle treated her, his gentle spirit, and how hard he worked for his dreams. Soon she was helping him record songs, mixing his tracks, and sharing all the skills she’d taught herself. She believed in his voice before anyone else did.

Their love grew in recording studios and quiet moments, long before fame knocked on their door. They weren’t just lovers; they were each other’s biggest cheerleaders. When life pulled them in different directions, they did the hard work of staying connected, of making sure their hearts still beat to the same rhythm. For five years, they wrote their love story privately, supporting each other through every career milestone, every struggle, every triumph.

Their story shows that sometimes the best love isn’t about instant fireworks, but friendship turning into forever. It’s about believing in each other’s dreams and doing the quiet work of growing together. In a world of quick romances, Adekunle Gold and Simi remind us that true love is worth the work.

Why I decided to give love a chance with Adekunle – Simi

In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Simi revealed why she decided to date her now-husband, Adekunle Gold.

Simi said that Adekunle Gold had been messaging her on Facebook for a while, but she didn’t notice until they started dating. She said that she was initially hesitant to date him because she didn’t know him very well, but she was eventually won over by his kindness and persistence.

“He was a really nice guy,” Simi said. “He was always respectful and he never pressured me into anything. He just let me get to know him and eventually I fell in love with him.”

Simi and Adekunle Gold started dating in 2014 and were married in 2019. They have one child together, a daughter named Adejare.

Simi said that she is grateful that she decided to give Adekunle Gold a chance. She said that he is the best husband and father she could have ever asked for.

“I’m so lucky to have him in my life,” Simi said. “He is my best friend and my soulmate.”

The couple is known for their love of music and their strong relationship. They have collaborated on several songs together, including “Chemistry” and “Omo Olomo.” They have also released a joint album, “For Better, For Worse.”

Five years of friendship sealed into a blissful union in 2019

Both lovers took a leap of faith when in 2019 they decided it was time to formalise what they had going on for five years. They chronicled their love journey in a song titled ‘Promise’ released in 2019.

The afro-alternative song contains lyrics of the duo speaking of their love for each other and promising to stick together for eternity; and was accompanied by an equally affectionate video.

The video featured Simi and Adekunle Gold, whose beach-themed, private wedding with 300 guests was embedded in the music video.

In a note accompanying the song, Adekunle Gold thanked fans for their well wishes and explained their reasons for having a private off-media wedding.

He said, “Earlier in 2018, I asked my girl of 5 years to be my wife. Knowing all my imperfections and shortcomings, she said yes!

“This January, before God and our family, we vowed to do this thing called life together. To be honest, it’s easy to get lost in the limelight.

“So we definitely have a slightly obsessive desire for a private life that belongs to just us. We planned on sharing a little bit of the beginning of our forever with you.

“Thankfully, my team got Kudus to capture some of these moments for you. I see all your beautiful wishes for me and mine.

“I want to thank you and I hope our union brings more magic. Here’s your first look. Promise,” Adekunle said.
