Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended a wanted kidnapping suspect in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The arrest forms part of the ongoing successes recorded under the newly launched OPERATION ZAFIN WUTA.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops detained one Umar Musa Geyi at Jandei-Kulamu in Wukari LGA.

According to authorities, the suspect, who has been on the wanted list of security agencies, is believed to be a key member of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for terrorising multiple communities in the region.

A statement released by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, revealed that preliminary findings link the suspect to the kidnapping of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei-Kulala axis, who was abducted on November 13, 2025, and is still being held.

Troops apprehended the suspect after intercepting him during a phone conversation where he confirmed the victim remained in captivity and demanded a ransom of ₦20 million.

He is currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the victim’s location and secure his release.

The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift action and reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, rescuing abducted persons, and strengthening security across Taraba State.

He also encouraged residents to stay alert and support security agencies with timely and reliable information.
