Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Monday held a meeting with the state’s security chiefs to evaluate security conditions and enhance preparedness measures.
In a post on X, Abiodun said he met with the “security chiefs in Ogun State today to assess the level of security in the state and the country as it relates to us.
“As we often say, the best time to prepare for war is during a time of peace.
“Ogun State is currently regarded as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, if not the most peaceful, and it is important that we continue to protect and sustain that standing.”
The governor emphasized that preserving Ogun’s reputation as a peaceful state requires proactive strategies.
It was noted that regular consultations with security officials are vital to preventing threats from escalating, particularly as insecurity grows in other parts of the country.
Abiodun added, “To maintain this position, we must stay proactive, strengthen our preparedness, and put in place the right measures to mitigate anything that could threaten our peace and stability.
“This is not the first meeting of its kind, but it is a particularly important one, which is why we convened it today.”
He further explained that these engagements are part of broader efforts to ensure Ogun remains safe for residents.
“These formed part of our remarks as we engaged with the service chiefs this morning, reaffirming our shared commitment to keeping Ogun State safe, peaceful, and secure for all,” he said.
The meeting comes as attacks by suspected terrorists and bandits rise across Nigeria.
Last Friday, bandits kidnapped 215 students and 12 teachers from St Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, with 50 students confirmed to have escaped by Sunday.
This incident followed the abduction of 26 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi, just four days earlier.
In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRazaq announced the release of 38 individuals abducted during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
