Argentina icon Lionel Messi set another remarkable football milestone after guiding Inter Miami to a dominant 5-1 win against New York City FC on Saturday, securing the club’s first-ever MLS Eastern Conference title.

Although Messi didn’t get on the scoresheet, he still made history by assisting Inter Miami’s second goal, finished by Mateo Silvetti in the 67th minute.

With that assist to Silvetti, Messi recorded his 405th career assist — the highest total in football history.

The Barcelona great will look to extend his historic run as Inter Miami await the outcome of the MLS Western Conference final between San Diego FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps to determine their opponent for the 2025 MLS Cup.

The championship match is set for Saturday, December 6, offering Messi, Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and the rest of the squad a chance to capture Inter Miami’s first league title.
