Northern govs, traditional rulers meet over insecurity

Governors from the 19 Northern states have convened in Kaduna to discuss the recent rise in kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities across the region.

The central focus of the meeting is identifying strategies to address the growing insecurity in the North.

Among those physically present are Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna), Bago (Niger), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), while other states are represented by their deputies.

Traditional leaders, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, are also participating in the emergency session being held on Monday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna.

Though details of the emergency meeting had yet to be released officially, a government source said they are deliberating on crucial regional matters, particularly the recent troubling resurgence of kidnapping, banditry across the North.
