According to him, while travelling back to Bayelsa, he received a call from his wife’s phone demanding N2 million, with instructions to transfer N1 million each into two separate accounts.

He said he only had N300,000 in his account, which he transferred to one of the accounts provided by the kidnappers.

However, upon arriving in Amassoma, the kidnappers called again and warned him against paying into the earlier account.

The husband said one of the suspects subsequently took over the phone and raised the ransom demand to N100 million.

He explained that after pleading with the kidnappers and telling them he could not afford the amount, they reduced the demand to N20 million.

Negotiations continued for several days, during which the kidnappers later demanded N3 million, he said.

According to him, he eventually raised another N1.5 million and transferred the money into an account supplied by the kidnappers.
