A 101-year-old woman, Esther Ogunmabo, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for allegedly selling cannabis in Ilisan, Ogun State.
NDLEA operatives reportedly found 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in small sachets when they arrested the elderly woman on Saturday, August 15.
During questioning, Ogunmabo reportedly explained that she turned to the drug business after fire destroyed her provisions store, leaving her without her former source of income.
She allegedly said one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, supplied her with the cannabis every four days, after which she sold it in small quantities to people in the area.
However, because of her advanced age, the NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), ordered that she be granted bail and given counselling.
The agency also arrested the daughter accused of supplying the drugs to her.
