The former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, has taken aim at Abubakar Malami, the immediate past attorney-general of the federation (AGF), over his recent assertion that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is treating him in a politically motivated manner.
In a post shared on X on Sunday, Odinkalu referred to Malami as a “grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General” while he served in office.
The former NHRC boss said that if Malami now considers the EFCC to be politicised, he should remember that “they’re following what he taught them.
“Someone should tell Abubakar Malami to please sit this out. He was a grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General,” Odinkalu wrote.
“If he’s now complaining that EFCC is political, they should tell him that they’re following what he taught them. They have no need to deny it!”
Odinkalu’s comments come after Malami accused the EFCC of revoking his bail because he attended a political event in Kebbi state.
However, the anti-graft agency countered that Malami failed to satisfy the five conditions attached to his provisional bail, describing his allegation as “untenable”.
The EFCC maintained that it operates without political bias and advised the former minister to comply with his bail terms rather than make what it called “bogus claims”.
Malami, who is under investigation for 18 alleged offences, including money laundering, abuse of office, and terrorism financing, has insisted that he did not breach any of his bail conditions.
