The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced a $5,000 fine against the Egyptian national team for failing to comply with mandatory media duties in the mixed zone.
The sanction relates to Egypt’s match against Zimbabwe in the opening round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. According to CAF, the penalty was imposed because players and members of the technical crew did not meet their required post-match media responsibilities.
CAF explained that after the final whistle, the entire Egyptian delegation passed through the mixed zone without stopping to engage with journalists, a move that breached the competition’s media regulations.
Alongside the fine, CAF issued a strong warning to the seven-time African champions, stressing that repeat violations would attract tougher sanctions. The football body specifically cautioned that if Egypt again fails to cooperate with media interviews following their second-round fixture against South Africa, more severe disciplinary action could be taken.
CAF reiterated that media access is a fundamental part of tournament regulations, noting that post-match interviews and mixed-zone interactions play a vital role in promoting transparency, boosting fan engagement, and enhancing the image of African football.
