Barely two weeks after Governor Ahmadu Fintiri hosted a peace dinner at the Yola Government House, violence has flared up again between the Bachaman and Chobo communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State. On Saturday, three Chobo women were reportedly killed while working on their farms.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the Adamawa Police Command spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, said the women were allegedly attacked by suspected Bachaman militia members near Tigno village.
“The Adamawa State Police Command has swiftly responded to the renewed Lamurde tribal conflict between the Bachama and Chobo communities, leading to the killing of three women and the apprehension of two suspects,” Nguroje said.
Police arrested two suspects — William Joshua, 30, and Ezekiel Luka, 23 — both from Tigno, who are currently assisting investigators. Security operatives also recovered 29 live rounds of ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, ₦90,000 in cash, and other weapons from the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, called on residents to remain calm, assuring the public that all legal steps are being taken to ensure those responsible, including their sponsors, are held accountable.
The communal violence, which began last month, has reportedly resulted in more than 18 deaths so far, with all the victims said to be women.
