Senegal were crowned champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night after a hard-fought 1–0 extra-time victory over hosts Morocco in the final held in Rabat.

The match-deciding goal came in the 94th minute, when Pape Gueye found the net following a tense encounter that remained goalless at the end of regulation time.

The final was characterised by lengthy stoppages after a late VAR intervention led to a penalty award for Morocco. However, Brahim Diaz failed to convert the spot-kick, with Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy producing a crucial save.

Despite sustained late pressure from the hosts, Senegal held firm to seal the victory and lift the trophy, bringing the tournament to a dramatic conclusion.
