Lagos State Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu has approved the enlistment of 150 additional firefighters to enhance emergency response capacity and public safety across the state.
The announcement was made in a press release by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and highlighted by the agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, during the flag-off of the LSFRS Squad 23 training exercise in Ikeja.
According to Adeseye, the recruitment is part of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s ongoing efforts to develop a resilient and professionally trained fire and rescue service capable of handling emergencies efficiently.
She noted that this builds on previous recruitment initiatives, including the engagement of 100 firefighters in 2020 ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, Lagos recorded its largest recruitment into the fire service under the current administration, with 435 firefighters enlisted. Their Passing Out Parade coincided with the service’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and the commissioning of 62 fire apparatuses, new fire stations in Ajegunle, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Oniru Lekki, as well as an ultra-modern headquarters at Alausa, Ikeja.
Adeseye stated that the newly recruited 150 firefighters, employed in November 2025, are undergoing intensive training at the upgraded Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Fire Academy.
“They are enrolled in the Professional Basic Firefighting Competency and Short Service Course aimed at producing disciplined and highly skilled emergency responders in line with global best practices,” she added.
Adeseye reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to investing in personnel development, infrastructure, and equipment to protect lives, property, and the environment.
The statement was signed by Maria Fadairo, Public Affairs Officer, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and dated January 20, 2026.
