Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested 13 suspects in connection with a violent attack in Idanre town.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed that the incident, which occurred on 18 February, resulted in two deaths.
He added that three other victims sustained injuries and several properties were destroyed during the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the town.
“Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, operatives of the Idanre Division executed coordinated operations at strategic locations, culminating in the arrest of the following suspects: Adewusi, Dele, Akinkurole, Victor, Abbas, Michael, Jolojolo, Ifedayo, Olamilekan, Emmanuel, Sunday, Michael, and Monday.”
Jimoh explained that the arrests followed a carefully coordinated, intelligence-led operation ordered by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.
He stated that the suspects have provided useful statements that are assisting ongoing investigations.
Lawal reiterated the Command’s determination to ensure that all those involved in the attack face justice. He also urged residents of Idanre and the wider Ondo State community to remain calm, law-abiding, and to provide timely information to support security operations.
Kidnappers Abduct Couple in Akure North
In a separate incident, gunmen abducted a couple in Ilu-Abo, a community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The attackers reportedly ambushed Jamiu Olawale and his wife on Friday as they returned from their shop, seizing them in front of their residence after emerging from a nearby bush.
During the attack, the gunmen also shot a neighbour, Patrick Ilumaro, who had been seated outside his home. Authorities rushed him to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
