“I was the one doing everything”, Nollywood actress reveals she was sole provider during marriage to ex-husband
Veteran Eucharia Anunobi has spoken candidly about the “painful realities” of her former marriage to Charles Ekwu, disclosing that she carried the financial responsibilities throughout their relationship.
The 60-year-old Nollywood actress-turned-evangelist made the revelation while appearing on the latest episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, where she explained that she was solely responsible for covering their household expenses.
“Charles, if you’re listening to this. I am not saying the lie. I am not lying against you. He convinced me. I held onto the marriage, believing that it was alright, we would be fine,” she said.
Anunobi also admitted that she disregarded her parents’ concerns about the relationship, only to later realise she had been left to shoulder the financial burden alone.
“He’s the same person who said he would be there with me through thick and thin. He’s the same person my parent said ‘Eucharia, this guy is not it for you.’ I was the one paying the rent, I was the one doing everything. Charles never brought one naira. When I started the battle of my life, Charles turned,” she said.
The actress further reflected on the heartbreaking death of her only son, Raymond Ekwu, attributing it to medical negligence.
“The student doctor was asked to do a blood transfusion, but he did a blood extraction. I removed three pints of my son’s blood,” she said.
Anunobi married Charles Ekwu, the father of her only child, in 2000, but the marriage ended in divorce after six years.
Her son Raymond, who battled complications linked to Sickle Cell Disease, died in August 2017.
