Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged shooting of skit maker and social media personality Broda Shaggy, whose real name is Samuel Perry, in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
Report stated earlier on Friday that the incident occurred last Sunday afternoon while the comedian was filming a skit beneath the Sango-Ota bridge.
Although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, a police source who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to comment on the matter revealed that the influencer suffered a gunshot wound during the filming.
However, the police command said it could not yet verify whether the shooting actually took place within Ogun State.
In a short statement issued to the media on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, urged the public to avoid circulating unconfirmed reports while the investigation is ongoing.
“For the sake of clarity, the command cannot confirm that Broda Shaggy was shot anywhere within Ogun State. Investigation into the matter has, however, commenced.
“Members of the public are kindly advised to refrain from spreading unverified information and allow the investigation to run its course,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, findings by our correspondent indicated that no official report had been filed with the police by the victim’s team since the incident happened.
A source who recounted what happened after the incident told our correspondent on Thursday that Broda Shaggy was quickly taken to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos, where he initially received treatment.
“He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We don’t have information yet on how it happened, but his crew members who were present quickly rushed him to the hospital,” the source disclosed.
According to the source, medical personnel at the hospital promptly administered first aid to him upon arrival.
Further investigations later revealed that he was subsequently transferred to Duchess Hospital located in the Government Residential Area of Ikeja, where he is currently recovering.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Thursday, explaining that the police were alerted by a hospital about a gunshot victim receiving treatment at the facility.
She said officers and a patrol team were immediately dispatched to the hospital, where they discovered the injured victim was Broda Shaggy.
“He was seen on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh. The location of the incident is in Sango-Ota and not within our jurisdiction, but the investigation is ongoing,” she added.
When contacted for comment on Thursday, the comedian’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, also known as Penzaar, said he was occupied at the moment and promised to return the call.
However, he had not done so as of the time this report was filed.
