Truck collides with car as gridlock worsens around Kara Bridge on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A collision involving a truck and a car has further worsened the already heavy traffic congestion around Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning on the outbound lane from Lagos towards Mowe and involved a Mack truck and a Toyota Camry.

The truck rammed into the car, leaving the vehicle with extensive damage to its bonnet.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), alongside other security personnel and traffic management authorities, were deployed to the scene to control the situation and ease vehicular movement.

The accident intensified the gridlock that has affected the Kara Bridge axis in recent days.

Traffic congestion has reportedly stretched beyond the immediate area, with spillovers reaching Otedola Bridge, Berger, and surrounding routes.

Motorists have continued to face long delays in the area, with some journeys taking between three and five hours for relatively short distances.

The worsening traffic situation has largely been linked to ongoing rehabilitation work on the bridge.

The Federal Ministry of Works had earlier commenced repairs to replace damaged expansion joints on the outbound carriageway, resulting in partial lane closures and diversions.

The current phase of the repairs, which resumed on March 10, 2026, is expected to last about two weeks, with a tentative completion date of March 24, 2026.

Additionally, increased vehicular movement associated with the Eid and public holiday period has contributed to the rise in traffic volume.

Authorities have advised motorists to remain patient, obey traffic regulations, and consider alternative routes where possible as efforts continue to restore normal traffic flow.
