The Lagos State Government organized special prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of his 74th and his re-election bid.

The event took place at the Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque (LSCCM), Alausa, where clerics offered prayers for Nigeria, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dr Kadri Hamzat, and other political figures.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro, SAN, expressed appreciation to Lagosians and Nigerians for supporting President Tinubu. He conveyed confidence that the nation would surmount its present difficulties under Tinubu’s leadership.

He encouraged residents to stay politically active rather than complacent about the president’s future, urging eligible voters to secure their Permanent Voters’ Cards and fully participate in upcoming elections. He also emphasized the need for continuous mobilisation in preparation for the 2027 polls.

The governor added that the president is still dedicated to reforms focused on enhancing security and strengthening the country. He mentioned ongoing deliberations on establishing state police, noting that proposals on how it would operate have been submitted to the National Assembly. He appealed to Nigerians to be patient and have faith in the administration’s long-term plans, stressing that national development takes time and steady effort.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters (Islam), Dr Abdullahi Jebe, stated that the prayer session was important in acknowledging Tinubu’s contributions to society. He described the president as a leader who has guided many and supported the growth of others.

Dr Jebe noted that praying for national leaders is a key responsibility, adding that Tinubu’s time as governor of Lagos created foundations that still influence governance in the state. He urged Nigerians to reflect on the president’s leadership and back initiatives aimed at national development.

The mosque’s chairman, Afis Gbolahan LSCCM Chairman, Mr Hafis Toriola, an engineer, said the initiative was meant not just to honour the president but also to pray for the country’s stability and progress.

Toriola, who is the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Housing, explained that the gathering aligns with religious teachings that encourage prayers for leaders. He added that the session focused on seeking divine guidance, protection, and wisdom for those in authority.

He said the prayers went beyond the president to include key state officials and the Nation, noting that the aim was to seek wisdom and direction for leaders at all levels so their decisions would foster development and improve citizens’ welfare.
