Deciding to join Bayern was right choice – Luis Diaz

Luis Díaz has said his move to Bayern Munich from Liverpool FC last summer was the best decision for his career.

After spending three-and-a-half years at Anfield, where he won the Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup, Díaz completed a £65.5m transfer to the German giants.

He has enjoyed an impressive debut season, registering 38 goal contributions (23 goals and 15 assists) in 40 appearances across all competitions, placing him among Europe’s most productive attackers this campaign.

Only Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé, Michael Olise, and Erling Haaland have recorded more goal involvements in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Bayern Munich are also still in contention for a possible treble, with Díaz playing a key role under coach Vincent Kompany.

Speaking to ESPN, he said: “Deciding to join Bayern was the right choice. I’m really happy and I enjoy every match.

“I feel great, I’m in good shape, and that means I’m ready to help the team.

“We have a clear plan, we’re a very close-knit group, and that shows on the pitch.”

He added that Bayern’s 2–1 Champions League win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final was deserved but could have been more comfortable given their dominance.

“We’d already analysed Real Madrid, and the move [regarding the opening goal] went exactly as we’d planned,” he said.

“We felt more comfortable as the game progressed, won the ball back more often and controlled the game better. That’s what we like to do.

“We’re very happy, but we’re left with a slight feeling of disappointment that we could have scored one or two more goals. We played a great match against a very tough opponent.”
