Rising terror attacks meant to distract Tinubu’s government – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the recent surge in terrorist attacks across the country is part of a coordinated “gang up” aimed at distracting President Bola Tinubu from his reform agenda.

Akpabio made the remark on Tuesday in Abuja during his goodwill message at the commissioning of the Nigeria Revenue Service Headquarters.

He stated, “Believe me, Mr President, two weeks after you win the elections, the bomb blasts will stop. People are sponsoring it to distract you from your work.

“You’re doing so well despite the gang up on your administration.”

His comments come shortly after President Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and a French military official at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Security concerns have recently intensified, following incidents including a controversial military airstrike that reportedly caused civilian casualties and a fresh advisory from the United States authorising the voluntary departure of non-essential embassy staff from Abuja.

The Nigerian military has continued operations against insurgent groups, while authorities maintain that efforts are ongoing to address insecurity across the country.
