The South-West leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally declared its unwavering commitment to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Aminu Turaki-led National Working Committee.
During a press conference in Ibadan, Zonal Secretary Sanya Atofarati praised the Governor’s record, noting that “Makinde has shown stability, focus, and an unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends, while also playing a significant role in sustaining and strengthening multi-party democracy in Nigeria.”
The party leadership dismissed claims of an internal plot to remove the governor, labeling such reports as “baseless and contrived. They formed part of a calculated attempt to generate unnecessary political tension.” Atofarati emphasized that the “South West Zonal Executive Committee unequivocally identifies with and stands firmly behind Governor Makinde, whose leadership continues to exemplify stability, focus, and commitment to the welfare of the people.”
The PDP leadership took strong exception to recent allegations made by former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, who claimed Makinde was plotting to depose the Olubadan of Ibadan. The party condemned Fayose’s comments as “irresponsible and self-serving, capable of inciting tension, particularly through the needless politicisation of revered traditional institutions. Such conduct is unacceptable and stands condemned.”
Fayose, however, has doubled down on his claims via social media, telling observers that “Those who are still in doubt, Governor Makinde’s plot to remove the Olubadan of Ibadan, Ladoja, should just keep their fingers crossed and follow unfolding events.”
The zonal leadership urged the public to ignore attempts to destabilize the region for personal gain. They reaffirmed that “Nigerians must not lose faith in democratic institutions despite present difficulties. PDP remains resolute in its commitment to people-focused governance, stability, and national progress, and stands firmly with citizens confronting hardship and uncertainty.”
