US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States now exercises full control over the Strait of Hormuz, a key global route for crude oil shipments.
The strategic waterway has remained a focal point of tension since the conflict involving Iran and the US-Israel alliance began in February.
Iran’s blockade of the strait previously disrupted global oil supply, pushing prices higher and forcing several countries to adopt strict energy-saving measures.
Although a ceasefire initially led to Iran reopening the passage for commercial use, the move was reversed within a day.
Tehran accused the US of “piracy” and “sea robbery” after Washington maintained its naval blockade despite the ceasefire agreement.
Iran has yet to reopen the strait, while US naval forces continue to maintain a strong presence in the area.
In a post, Trump asserted American dominance over the waterway, claiming Iran is struggling with leadership issues.
“We have total control over the Strait of Hormuz. No ship can enter or leave without the approval of the United States Navy,” he said.
He added that the passage would remain “Sealed up Tight” until Iran agrees to a deal.
In another statement, Trump revealed he had instructed the US navy to take action against any vessel attempting to deploy “mines” in the waters.
A naval mine is an explosive device placed in water to damage or destroy ships or submarines.
Iran has not officially responded to Trump’s latest remarks regarding US control of the Strait of Hormuz.
