Funke Akindele slams Air Peace over flight delay at Gatwick Airport

Funke Akindele has criticised Air Peace after passengers were left stranded for several hours at Gatwick Airport without luggage, accommodation, or clear communication.

The filmmaker took to X on Friday to demand urgent action, stating that travellers, including elderly individuals, had been waiting since early morning with little information after being told a bird strike caused the disruption.

“Air Peace, this is unacceptable. Passengers (including elderly people) have been stranded since 6:30am at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication.

“After hours of delay, we were told there was a bird strike and promised a hotel. Hours later, people are still sitting at baggage claim hungry, exhausted, and without their bags,” she wrote.

Akindele added that elderly passengers were struggling while families were left fatigued, urging the airline to release luggage and fulfil its promise of hotel accommodation.

In a follow-up post accompanied by a video, she said conditions had not improved hours later.

“Air Peace, what is going on? Since 7am at London Gatwick Airport and it’s almost 4pm — no bags, no hotel, no proper updates. Passengers are stranded. People are tired and hungry. Release the luggage and take care of your passengers NOW,” she wrote.

Responding, Air Peace expressed regret over the situation, attributing the delay to circumstances beyond its control. The airline said safety remains its priority and noted that operational disruptions such as bird strikes can affect schedules.

It added that efforts were ongoing to assist affected passengers and appealed for patience.

As of the time of reporting, there was no confirmation that luggage had been returned or that hotel accommodation had been provided.
