Nigeria’s Flamingos delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over Guinea in the first leg of their second-round qualifying clash for the 2026 Women’s U17 World Cup, played in Abidjan on Saturday.

The qualifiers are aimed at determining Africa’s representatives for the upcoming 2026 Women’s U17 World Cup in Morocco.

The Nigerian side made a flying start to the encounter, with captain Harmony Chidi scoring a first-half hat-trick at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.

Nigeria netted four goals in the first half against a struggling Guinea side.

Chidi opened the scoring in the first minute, before doubling the lead in the 12th minute with a powerful long-range effort. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, FC Robo Queens forward, extended the lead to 3-0 with a close-range header at the far post, before Chidi completed her hat-trick six minutes before half-time after finishing a defence-splitting pass.

Mary Dunstan added the fifth goal to round off the emphatic win and give new coach Akeem Busari a strong start to his tenure.

The return leg is scheduled to take place at Remo Stars’ Ikenne Stadium on May 30.
