Showman and Proxy Lagos nightclub owner, Mike Nwogu, widely known as Pretty Mike, has spoken about marriage, family life, and his recent challenges following the temporary shutdown of his nightclub after a raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Speaking during an interaction with journalists at his club, he said he still hopes to get married in the future, describing marriage as a significant life milestone.

“Am I looking forward to marriage? Yes. I believe marriage is a major achievement. There’s nothing more beautiful than building a family and raising children together,” he said.

He, however, observed that the rising rate of failed marriages has made many single individuals more careful about settling down.

The socialite added that for him, character and behaviour are more important than physical looks when selecting a life partner.

“For me, it’s about behaviour, attitude and personality. Physical appearance is not enough to sustain a marriage,” he added.

Addressing his controversial public reputation, Pretty Mike acknowledged that controversy has become part of his brand identity, even though he does not intentionally seek it.

“My brand is already a controversial brand. It doesn’t necessarily mean I like controversy, but I found out that in this business, it is part of it,” he said.

Despite his flashy lifestyle, he described himself as someone who naturally prefers a quiet and private life.

“I actually hate parties and loud music. I like staying indoors by myself, but because nightlife is my business and source of income, I have to push myself out there,” he explained.

He also revealed that he invested over N100 million in renovating his nightclub, Proxy Lagos, following its closure after the NDLEA raid.

According to him, the renovation was necessary to reposition the club and improve customer experience after months of inactivity.

Pretty Mike said the club remained shut for about nine months, a period he described as both financially and emotionally difficult for him and his team.

“I spent over N100 million renovating the club. After everything that happened, I felt there was a need to rebuild and create something even better for people who support my business,” he said.

He noted that despite the shutdown, he remained financially stable through multiple income sources and support from close associates and family.

“The brand, Pretty Mike, is always making money. That is what has kept me afloat regardless,” he stated.

He further disclosed that aside from nightlife, he is involved in construction and real estate, where he develops and sells properties.

“I have a construction firm. I’m also slightly into real estate where I build and sell properties. Then, of course, there’s family support. People feel safe investing with me because they know I’m not the type to disappear,” he added.

Pretty Mike said his credibility over the years has made it easier for people to trust and invest in his businesses.
