Super Eagles whip Jamaica to secure fourth Unity Cup title

Nigeria’s Super Eagles successfully defended their Unity Cup crown with a convincing 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final played at the Valley Stadium in London on Saturday.

A brace from Alhassan Yusuf and a goal from Terem Moffi guided the largely experimental Nigerian side to victory before a sizeable crowd, despite the match coinciding with the UEFA Champions League final.

The triumph makes Nigeria four-time champions of the invitational tournament, having previously won the competition in 2002, 2004 and the revived edition in 2025, where they defeated Jamaica on penalties in the final.

For the 2026 final, head coach Eric Chelle made only one alteration to the starting XI that secured a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the semi-final earlier in the week.

The Super Eagles took the lead just three minutes into the contest. Yusuf reacted quickest at the far post to slot home after the Jamaican goalkeeper failed to properly deal with a header inside the box.

Nigeria extended their advantage shortly after the restart. Femi Azeez, who scored twice in the semi-final, produced a clever run to the byline before delivering a lofted cross across goal. Moffi rose above the defence to nod into an empty net.

Yusuf completed his brace in style with the standout goal of the evening. After a swift counterattack initiated by Philip Otele, the midfielder received the ball on the edge of the area and curled a precise effort into the bottom-left corner to seal an emphatic victory for the Super Eagles.
