It makes no sense expecting Pastor Adeboye to lead protest at 84 — Bamiloye

Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, has defended the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, amid criticism over his recent comments on insecurity in Nigeria.

In a post shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Bamiloye said bloggers and critics had misrepresented Adeboye’s remarks, insisting that the cleric only spoke against insecurity and not in support of government inaction.

“This is what he said: many bloggers saw this, but they would misproject it. But he spoke against the evils,” Bamiloye wrote.

The controversy followed the resurfacing of a video of Adeboye recorded in November 2025, in which he urged the federal government to give security chiefs a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorists or step down. The video sparked mixed reactions online, with some accusing him of discouraging protests against insecurity.

Responding to suggestions that the 84-year-old cleric should personally lead protests, Bamiloye dismissed the idea as unrealistic given his age and spiritual role.

“And for all those who are expecting an 84-year-old man, servant of God, to lead a protest against a government, this does not make sense by virtue of his age and by the mandate of his calling,” he stated.

Bamiloye also addressed claims that Adeboye once led a protest in 2020, clarifying that it was not a personal initiative but a coordinated action directed by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in response to insecurity.

“And for all those who said he led a protest, it was the instruction of CAN and PFN for every church to stage a protest against insecurity in the nation, and he complied and led his denomination too, just as some other churches did,” he said.

He further stressed that the core responsibility of the church is to pray for peace and divine intervention in national affairs.

“Our major responsibility as the Church of God is to continually pray for the peace of our nation and the intervention of God in the government,” Bamiloye stated.

The RCCG Public Relations Department had earlier clarified that a viral image of Adeboye holding a placard was from a 2020 prayer walk under the Buhari administration and not linked to any political protest.
